1st Year Undergraduate Experiments in Physical Chemistry
X.3 Simple kinetics
In this experiment you will study the kinetics of the light output of a light stick and apply simple theory to determine the reaction order. You will also attempt to determine the activation energy for the reaction, using measurements of the rate at several different temperatures.
Instructions for this experiment are provided in the 1st year Laboratory Manual.

Safety
The light sticks should present no safety hazard and you will not be using any
electrical equipment at mains voltage other than a water bath. However, if you have any safety
conceerns, talk to a demonstrator or lab technician.
